Unlocking and Upgrading a 2701HG-G Modem

You will now need to download the firmware from this link.

First thing to do is to use the reset button on the back of the 2wire modem and reset it back to factory settings.
Once the modem has rebooted (wait 2 minutes) then use this link to access the firmware update page.(pic1.png)

Click "Continue"

Browse to and select the the firmware named "2wire_reinstall_voice_5.29.117.3.2sp" (pic2.png)

Once you have input the path to the firmware,
Click "UPGRADE NOW" (pic2.png)

IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL THAT YOU DO NOT STOP THE UPGRADE OR YOU WILL BRICK THE MODEM

You should now see the following screen shots as it upgrades.

During this process it will connect and disconnect the network connection a few times.

BE PATIENT IT CAN TAKE A LONG TIME TO FLASH THE FIRMWARE !!!!!

Once finished you will get a confirmation page that looks like  pic7.png

Click "DONE" and the page will change to pic8.png

Close all windows and then try to access the modem using either of these links.

You should now be looking at  pic9.png

You have now successfully upgraded and unlocked the firmware for your 2Wire 2701HG-G modem.
You will also notice that there is a section for "Voice Settings"
This is normal to see even though your unit may not actually have a VOIP port on the modem itself.

At this point its always good practice to clear the modem once again using the reset button at the rear and then proceed to set up your internet connection, admin passwords, port forwarding and  wireless as required.
