Here's what I use for Outlook Express settings and Acanac.

Open Outlook Express
Across the toolbar at the top of the page
Tools, Account, Mail tab, myaccount + Properties
You should now be looking at the properties of the account.
It has 5 tabs starting with
"General, Servers, Connection, Security, Advanced"

1/ General tab
E-Mail Address: username@acanac.net
"include this account when syncronizing" is checked marked

2/ Servers tab
Incoming Server (POP3):acanac.net
Outgoing Server (SMTP):acanac.net
Account Name:username@acanac.net
Password:password they gave you
"remember password" is checked marked
"my server requires authentication" is checked marked
****Click settings button
"use same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked marked

3/ Connection tab-doesn't really need changing
4/ Security tab-doesn't really need changing

5/ Advanced tab
Nothing is check Marked and the port are
Outgoing Server (SMTP):25
Incoming Server (POP3):110
1 minute timeout

If my settings don't work for you or aren't the same as what you received,
then setting both your incoming and outgoing mail servers according to your instructions you have received should get you going.
There may be various different settings for different areas of service follow your instructions you received exactly.
